Developers strive to produce efficient code. Many times, developers will add code to their repositories and test it to make sure it works, but they are forgetting one very important step: benchmarking! Benchmarking allows developers to see the performance impact on their code output.

In order to answer the question of why a business needs middleware management, it is necessary to define what middleware is (what is middleware). It is generally accepted that middleware is software that sits between existing systems and processes and helps to smooth integration and interaction between them.

Life for an IT architect in retail would be so much easier if people would just spread their shopping out across the year.

Complex enterprises have an integration infrastructure (i2) layer that connects technologies and applications across cloud, data center, virtualized systems, mainframe, edge computing, etc.

Integration Infrastructure Management (i2M) is the “management” of the i2 layer and includes:

  • Configuration and security management
  • Monitoring and fault management
  • Alerting and automation
  • Performance optimization

The i2 layer includes a core middleware application (such as IBM MQ) along with many other “integration” technologies, such as MFT (managed file transfer), IoT, REST APIs, DataPower Gateway, and other messaging technologies (i.e., Kafka, TIBCO EMS, IBM ACE, IBM Integration Bus (IIB) and more).
